I work with people feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or ready for change—people who want to feel confident, connected, and in control of their lives. Many of my clients are seeking support for depression, anxiety, eating disorders, body image concerns, relationship challenges, or low self-esteem. My goal is to help you move toward a healthier, fulfilling version of yourself. Many of my patients are readers. When desired, I suggest novels that offer insight, perspectives, or emotional connections to themes we’re exploring in therapy. This creates a meaningful and creative pathway to growth. Curious? Hi, I'm Randi (Dr. Miranda Altman), Welcome to my profile. I'm a skilled clinician with a Doctorate in Psychology and a Master's in Social Work, who primarily works with Gen Z, Alpha, and Millennial clients. In my work, I begin from the following perspectives: • Acknowledging that you are in pain • Deciding to do something about it • Initiating transformation by working with a trained therapist to become more aware • Experiencing the positive impact of transformation My passion for treatment stems from my role as the director of counseling and mental health at a college. Concurrently, I was also an assistant professor in the psychology department. I anchor our work together in your free will to decide what you want to talk about, and when you are ready to share your history. I have expertise in the vicissitudes of trauma and understand the imperatives related to accommodation and medical leave. I embrace hopefulness while also validating your concerns. My approach is collaborative; I see you as the expert of your own journey. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you have. Best to you, Dr. Randi Altman, Psy.D., LCSW, MSW
The ordinary acts of speaking and listening, in the extraordinary context of the psychoanalytic setting, make it possible to discover oneself anew, or perhaps for the very first time. I work with adolescents and adults to explore difficulties in the areas of sexuality, creativity, relationships, work, and play. I aim to create an environment in which you can say anything, paying careful attention to whatever obstacles may stand in the way of speaking freely. My approach is to accompany you through a process whereby something new might happen. -- In addition to my clinical practice, I am a scholar of psychoanalytic theory and history. I hold a PhD in Literature with specializations in feminist and queer theory, cultural studies, and global modernisms.
I'm a clinical psychologist (PhD 1994, U Michigan) with 30 years experience meeting with adolescents, adults from 18-90, and couples. My doctoral research focused on loss and the impact of parental divorce. During my 25 years here I've met with many Cornell students, undergrads and grads. I make use of various approaches (psychodynamic, family systems, cognitive-behavioral), depending on what makes most sense. Family difficulties, romantic relationships, stress of all sorts, procrastination, and being 'stuck' completing academic work are common situations for which I've provided help.

I believe the most important foundation in therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. The therapy relationship can be a safe place to practice new skills that you are hoping to bring back to the rest of your life. My goal is to help you to feel safe during your time with me, so that you can explore yourself, your challenges, your strengths, your history, and anything else that is important to you. I also hope to help you make the changes that you would like to make in your life. Maybe you can feel better than you do now. Maybe you can learn more skills to cope with what feels hard. Maybe you need to be heard and validated. Whatever brings you to therapy, I’m here for it.
My approach centers on engaging in self-discovery and awareness of your thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns. This internal world influences anxiety, depression, mood stability and reactivity. Therapy is where you can take the time to get to know more about yourself and ways to build helpful self-care practices. Many of my clients come to therapy struggling with persistent self-doubt, critical inner narratives, as well as the weight of expectations around identity, achievement, and emotional expression. These expectations can distort our sense of self worth, making it challenging to define and meet important self-growth goals. Together, we can work to intuitively explore what may be contributing to these challenges, current belief systems and behavioral patterns. I value a conversational approach to therapy, where you can feel open in expressing your thoughts, concerns and internal narratives in order to ultimately choose if they are still serving you or it may be time for change. How we speak to ourselves matters; it not only affects our mood but also our motivation, behavior, and ability to connect with others. When we cultivate an intentional internal dialogue that aligns with our values we can begin to unlock a greater sense of autonomy and capability. This process leads to lessened anxiety, greater self confidence and acceptance.

I work with individuals across the adult lifespan. I find great joy serving college students and graduate students, and professionals in academia. I have spent many years working in university counseling centers including University of Iowa, UC Davis, CSUN, Indiana University and Cornell Health. My practice tends to focus on helping clients improve their relationship with self, others and the world around them. Some common themes in my practice are self-discovery; self-compassion; gratitude; boundary setting; clarifying values, needs and wants, and intention; mindset; health and wellness; mindfulness; and finding ways to live more present and fully.
I help people alleviate uncomfortable feelings, gain insight, and increase coping skills to overcome stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues and life transitions (such as relocation, school, career transitions). Part of being human means that you will struggle at some point with unproductive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, or unexpectedly have to manage something life throws your way. People I work with are motivated to develop skills to increase their self-confidence, communication, decision making and boundary setting skills. As well as optimize their emotional health/ well-being and are seeking tools to assist them in the process. I take an active and collaborative approach to help create tangible strategies to deal more effectively in the moment with difficult experiences and feelings. In addition to helping people alleviate current pain points, I assist in obtaining skills to develop a wellness practice that will be beneficial beyond sessions. My approach is person-centered and informed by evidence-based practices, including Lifestyle Medicine (nutrition, physical activity, sleep hygiene, and stress management), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Practice and Solution Focused Therapy. My goal is for you to leave each session feeling empowered and in control of their life.

Hello! I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in working with young adults, LGBTQ+ people (especially trans and non-binary), trauma, and emotional instability. My clients often come from backgrounds where they feel misunderstood and invalidated. They sometimes feel frustrated with their important relationships, or like they're stuck on an emotional roller coaster, or like they have trouble relaxing and feeling safe. In therapy, I create an accepting, non-judgmental environment where my clients can feel truly seen. From there, I help clients understand themselves, what they want to change in their lives, and how to reach their goals. I completed my training at college counseling centers and a hospital program serving college students. I know the challenges college students face, and I love helping students overcome those challenges. If you think we might be a good fit for therapy, please reach out! I offer free 15 minute consultation calls for anyone interested. I am currently offering therapy in person in Berkeley, CA on Saturdays and over Zoom Tuesday-Saturday in California, New York, and Virginia.
