We are a concierge practice providing evidence-based behavioral approaches for mental health challenges in students, young professionals, and high performance clientele. Our area of focus is ADHD, depression, anxiety (including social anxiety), OCD, insomnia, and addictions. Dr. Nissen has served as Chief of Student Mental Health and trained in psychiatry at Harvard Medical school. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master's degree in Counseling with a concentration in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling from Sam Houston State University. I have experience working with adjudicated youth in residential treatment, inpatient treatment, and at a PHP/IOP eating disorder treatment facility. My specialty areas include trauma, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, communication, and codependency. I approach therapy from a trauma-informed, client-centered perspective and am in alignment with Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating principles that I incorporate into disordered eating and eating disorder treatment. I believe that the therapeutic relationship can be one of the most healing and safe relationships encountered so I strive to meet clients where they're at with empathy and genuineness. I aim to support clients and walk alongside them in their healing journey while highlighting their strengths. I am EMDR trained and enjoy incorporating EMDR into treatment as appropriate. I also utilize techniques and interventions from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). “We don’t have to do all of it alone, we were never meant to.” -Brene Brown Currently accepting new clients for virtual/Telehealth counseling services and hypnotherapy. My 10+ years of practicing has become enriched with opportunities to work with an array of presenting issues and populations, all of which have deeply impacted, influenced, and enhanced my fulfillment and devotion to the mental health field. I maintain and promote an inclusive mindset, welcoming all human beings to share in a safe space, in order to knock down barriers, and move toward a healthier and more desirable quality of life. While the majority of the clients on my caseload suffer from the lasting effects of trauma/PTSD, a growing pattern, stemming from anxiety, depression, and relational/attachment issues has become a close second.
If you are looking for a different type of counselor where you build an authentic relationship, you’re in the right place. To best help my patients, I believe that a solid and authentic relationship must be built between counselor and you. The most important part about counseling is that you feel heard and comfortable. My experience consists of 6 plus years of working with adults and adolescents in a private health setting. I have a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Texas. As a counselor, I have worked with patients who have anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem, and grief/grieving issues. My specialties lie in working with patients who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, trauma, and pregnancy issues, and abortion. Although I do follow a combination of counseling theories, my main framework would be Humanistic “Person-centered.” This means that I have great respect for your autonomy and your ability to discern your own path, solutions, and direction in life. My goal in therapy is to help you discover the answers that lie within yourself to better your life at a pace that you feel comfortable with. I look forward to helping you create some relief from your worries in life. Whether that's the stress and frustrations of daily life or overcoming personal trauma, I'm confident I can help guide you through the bad days and bring a different perspective that will help you take back control of your life.
I work best with students who are doing their best but still feel overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally tired. Many are balancing school, relationships, and personal pressures, and may struggle with overthinking, self-doubt, or expressing their needs. Therapy is a warm, supportive space where you don’t have to have everything figured out. Together, we focus on helping you feel more grounded, understood, and confident as you navigate college life.
Life can be hard. Extremely hard. Sometimes you can’t see your way out. It’s normal. When those hard moments in life come, I’m here to see you through to the other side of your pain. That’s the goal. The other side. I am the owner and lead therapist at Empowered Perspective. I am licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and received my master’s degree in Human Relations (the study of psychology, sociology, and anthropology) from the University of Oklahoma. The program provided a solid foundation in my journey to counseling. Before arriving here, I worked in Corporate America for over 12 years guiding individuals through their careers as a Global Talent Director. Although I was “successful” by many people's definition, I wasn’t fulfilled. That is when I decided to answer my “calling” and enter into the counseling profession. I am honored that God chose me to do this work. I work with teens, adults, couples, and families and couples suffering from a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, and grief. As your counselor, you will get someone who is authentic, straightforward, down-to-earth, and open-minded. My job is not to judge you or your actions. My job is to listen to you, encourage you, walk beside you, and yes, sometimes challenge your perspective. I work primarily from the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Spiritual/Transpersonal Therapy treatment modalities. In simple terms, CBT focuses on how thoughts influence our emotions and behavior. Spiritual Therapy focuses on the body, mind and health of a person’s spirit. It puts an emphasis on a person’s spiritual path or enlightenment during life. There is more to life than existing and living through the pain; more than being a mother, spouse, friend, employee, daughter, or son. Getting through the challenges and roadblocks can sometimes feel insurmountable and confusing. My goal is to help you see the beauty of life, find meaning, and sustainable joy. When you are ready, I am here to help.
We are not biologically wired to cope with life alone. Even if we are not "alone" sometimes the ones we love lack the ability to fully support or understand us. Even if they may be a solid part of our support system. This is where therapy comes in. I specialize in guiding individuals through the intricate terrain of strong emotions. I have completed extensive training and research on healing strategies targeted for those trying to heal from adverse life experiences, trauma, ptsd, c-ptsd (attatchment/early childhood wounds) anxiety, depression, anger, and borderline personality disorder. **Treatment Modalities:** I am trained in EMDR, designed to reduce emotional distress due to traumatic life experiences. I also have special training in its use for helping those with borderline personality disorder and early childhood wounds, and anxiety-related issues. EMDR is considered a first-line treatment for trauma and has been shown to reduce emotional distress and accelerate the healing process. In addition, I use cognitive processing therapy (CPT), which has similar aims through different treatment techniques. Somatic (mind-body) techniques are also incorporated throughout the treatment process. We can talk about what will be the best fit for you. I also incorporate dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) skills for emotion regulation to tackle issues such as anxiety, depression, and anger. My clients will have take-home strategies that they can use outside of therapy. If you think we would be a good fit, I can be reached by call, text, or email.
I am Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas with a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have extensive experience with young adults and college-age students who are navigating life transitions, stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship or school-related challenges. My background includes supporting clients as a career development counselor, guiding them through career exploration, adjusting to college life, and maintaining balance between personal wellness and career success. I’m passionate about helping clients build confidence, manage change, and develop the clarity and resilience they need to move forward in both life and career. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and focused on helping you feel seen, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change.
Seeking support for yourself or your child(ren) takes courage so let me be the first to congratulate you on taking this first step. I am here to assist you in navigating the many changes and challenges that we are sometimes faced with in this life. In assisting you on your journey, I take a Cognitive Behavioral approach which seeks to target your thoughts, behaviors and feelings. In addition to CBT, I also incorporate solution-focused techniques to aid you in achieving your therapeutic goals. In the same way we seek a doctor for medical needs and a dentist for all things teeth related, seeking support from a mental health clinician is simply a way to meet your mental health needs. My purpose is to be the support you need.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe in the transformative power of empathy, understanding, and connection. I see therapy as a collaborative journey where both the therapist and clients work together to uncover and address underlying issues. I believe that every individual and relationship has the capacity for growth and change when given the right tools and support. I hold that a strong therapeutic alliance—built on trust and openness—is essential for effective therapy. My approach centers on the belief that understanding and improving relationship dynamics can lead to profound personal and relational growth. I am committed to helping clients develop healthier communication patterns, navigate life transitions, and enhance their emotional resilience. By fostering a supportive environment, I aim to empower clients to build meaningful, fulfilling relationships and lead balanced, enriched lives.
