Therapists for college students near Portland, OR
I believe that every person is created in the image of God, is uniquely designed and can obtain optimum mental health if they are willing to put forth the effort. I utilize many methods of counseling including a client-centered talk therapy approach, family systems theory, cognitive behavioral therapy, and EMDR. I have been formally trained in S.A.F.E. EMDR through the Personal Transformation Institute and use EMDR to work with clients who have endured past trauma. I have experience working with adolescents and adults with anxiety, OCD, and depression as well as sexual and drug addictions. In addition to emerging adulthood, I also enjoy working with families and couples who want to work on their communication and improve their relationships.
I am an evidence-based therapist who incorporates mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral strategies to tailor therapy to your needs. I will help you understand how to be more present-focused, how to set yourself up for success, and how to challenge negative thoughts and beliefs that hold you back from living a genuine life. I am a goal-oriented therapist. In the initial stages of therapy, we will work together to identify and clarify goals. Then, I'll help you learn new skills or tools to make those goals a reality. Finally, we'll work on reducing the likelihood of similar issues coming up in the future. Please feel free to email me through Psychology Today even if my profile says I'm full. I save a few weekend spaces specifically for students.

We will work collaboratively to help you find your strength, feel empowered and confident, and rediscover meaning and purpose in your life. Talking through past or present tough experiences or hurts can be difficult. It’s tempting to try and ignore them or minimize how they are impacting you. Therapy can be a safe space to help you take the time needed to address your feelings in a way that will help you truly heal from the hurt, and discover how to engage with yourself in a healthy way that enables you to move forward. Therapy with me is a nonjudgmental and collaborative space. I believe that the answers you are looking for are likely already within you, but therapy can help illuminate what those solutions could be. I work in session to address emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and interpersonal relationships, and use mindfulness and other tools that many people have found help them cope with challenging life circumstances. I also lead a group called Body Acceptance for Women, where you'll learn to connect with your body in a shame-free, loving, and enthusiastic way. I recognize that scheduling therapy for the first time can sometimes feel like an intimidating process. My hope is that you will trust that counseling can have a powerful and positive impact on your life. If you are bothered with anxiety, trauma, life transitions, body image issues, feeling unworthy, struggling with relationships, or any other challenge in life, let’s talk about it.

Charlie Health is a virtual behavioral health program for adolescents and young adults with moderate or severe mental health concerns or co-occurring substance use or eating disorders. Designed to meet the needs of those who require more than weekly therapy, our program combines curated group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy into personalized treatment programs. We are helping to serve those who are in crisis, or have been historically underserved, by eliminating the most significant treatment barriers: geographical and financial access. We work with nearly all commercial insurance nationwide and have no waitlist, thereby helping people access quality, evidence-based care regardless of insurance, location, or other barriers.
Therapy is a journey of healing, growth, self discovery and so much more. Each person brings with them a different story and unique perspective, which gives us the opportunity to meet you where you are in that moment, with empathy and support. At Steps to Change, LLC we frequently work with people around life transitions, neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, gender and sexuality, acute and chronic trauma issues, self empowerment, parenting, chronic illness (invisible and visible) as well as grief and loss. We enjoy working with individuals in a welcoming space that is created together through the therapeutic relationship. We believe the role of the therapist is to be there as a guide in the process of helping you trust your inner self more and assist in learning new coping strategies to better manage the adversities in life. All services are via Tele-Health, which gives the Client the comfort of their items and space during the sessions, often helping to feel more secure. Please email to schedule an appointment as written communication works best. Hours of availability are Monday-Wednesday with no evening availability. Our hope is that we are able to work together towards reaching your goals and creating change through interpersonal growth.

Are you someone who struggles with depression or anxiety, connection to others, or could use a neutral perspective and someone to talk to? Everyone wants to feel safe and supported while going through challenges. I work with teens and young adults to explore different ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving to increase self-awareness and improve functioning. Hello! My name is DJ Maurer (he/him), and I graduated with my master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling at Eastern Oregon University. I feel deeply privileged to join you on your journey here at Align Counseling. Life can be incredibly challenging at times, and it’s not always easy to navigate those moments alone. My counseling journey began with leading grief support groups for individuals who have lost loved ones. This experience sparked my passion for helping people navigate various life stages, challenges, and identity concerns. As an LGBTQIA2S+ provider, I am committed to providing affirming, inclusive care that fosters a therapeutic environment where you can explore and express your true, authentic self. I specialize in supporting clients through anxiety, grief, trauma, and identity exploration. While I have experience working with teens, young adults, and adults, I welcome clients from all walks of life, who face a wide range of challenges. My approach is grounded in person-centered and trauma-informed principles, committed to creating a safe, trusting space where you feel heard, valued, and supported. I tailor an array of techniques to meet your unique needs, and together, we’ll work collaboratively, guided by your voice, insights, and personal goals, to chart a path toward healing that feels genuine and empowering. In my downtime, I enjoy taking advantage of all the beauty the PNW offers. Wherever you are in your journey, I am here to support you. If you feel ready to take the next step, please reach out. I look forward to connecting with you!
I primarily support LGBTQIA+ and/or BIPOC adults who struggle with being their full, authentic selves navigate challenging systems and relationships. Clients often come to me worried that by making meaningful changes in their lives, they are being selfish. They might find themselves in work environments that are unsupportive, relationships they feel unfulfilled by, and friendships that seem unbalanced. It's a frustrating cycle, and they want their lives to be different, but are unsure how. After working with me, clients find themselves feeling more able to care for themselves, find joy in being with others, and feel more at peace with themselves. I approach therapy collaboratively and value humor, identity, and compassionate honesty in the therapeutic relationship. I also provide Brainspotting and Internal Family Systems treatment for trauma and provide letters for gender-affirming medical services. I know how frustrating it is to be unheard and unseen. I would love to help you explore how to better engage with yourself and others to become more authentically you. I have a social justice orientation and am affirming of all genders, sexualities, body sizes, and differing relationship structures. If any of the above spoke to you, let's chat!
I am here to remind you that you are already whole. My intention is to walk with you on your healing path and co-create a sacred space where we can tend to your body, mind, and spirit. My approach is heart-centered, non-pathologizing, and grounded in a humanistic lens. I value what evidence-based practices offer us, and hold reverence for the wisdom traditions, somatic knowing, and transpersonal experiences that live outside those frameworks. I also recognize that Western psychology is rooted in colonialism, and I am committed to an approach that honors lineages of healing that the dominant system has excluded. I weave in mindfulness, somatics, parts work, expressive arts, and nature therapy. I am certified in Somatic and Attachment Focused EMDR, and have extensive experience supporting those healing from religious and spiritual trauma. I especially enjoy working with the queer community and Highly Sensitive People (HSP), both of which are part of the path I walk. As a solo practice, I do not have a team to provide 24/7 crisis support. Because of this, my practice is a good fit for those who feel steady enough to manage their safety between our weekly sessions. When you reach out, please let me know what about my practice resonates with what you are seeking, your insurance, and your availability.
I am currently accepting clients for group therapy only. Though group may seem scary at first, it is an excellent place to work on many aspects of mental health that are impacted by interpersonal dynamics, including loneliness, grief, unhealthy relationship patterns, self-esteem, and much more. I use an integrative person-centered approach, which means that I seek to understand your unique experience and aim to create safe and trusting therapeutic relationships.
Wanting to implement change in your life or relationships can feel challenging and overwhelming. Acknowledging that we are in a place where talking to a therapist seems helpful is an act of courage and also provides some relief that we are taking steps to help ourselves with the difficulties that arise in life. I believe we all story our lives against the backdrop of our personal discourse, family discourse, and societal discourse. Some of the stories we identify with have been beneficial yet others have been less helpful or even hinder us to reach the happiness and contentment we seek.
