I meet clients where they are at by building upon existing strengths and providing a nonjudgmental space for self-exploration and growth. I value honesty, empathy, curiosity, and humor in my practice. The foundation of my work uses person-centered and relational therapy techniques. I may pull from psychodynamic, solution-focused, or narrative therapy. My therapeutic approach is for those looking for support, self-reflection, alternate perspectives, and accountability. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults for individual therapy. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship dynamics, life transitions, and confidence. I believe authentic conversations about identity, including exploration of sexuality, gender, race, and class are an important part of our therapeutic work together.

I offer ADHD, ASD, Learning Disability, and other mental health testing to clients ages 7 to 70 years old. I have been providing mental health assessments for over 10 years and have completed nearly 2,000 assessments in my career. I offer thorough testing, including batteries used at the University of Minnesota Neurological Assessment clinic, where I trained, which provides clear insights into specific areas of strength and difficulty, and highly customized feedback for clients and their families based on assessment results.

My clients are often either grieving, caring for a parent or spouse, or experiencing their own chronic or terminal illness. Many of my clients are adult children caring for an aging parent.

When Henry Thoreau gazed at the summer tree and said that β€œthe tenderest fruit needs the tenderest handling,” as a therapist, I believe it's equally true to our mind and our experiences. My role as the therapist is to create a safe and intentional space for you and to lean into the inner strength that may be shadowed by past wounds, present stress, or the hopelessness of the future. My clients include individuals who have experienced trauma, mood disorders, personality disorders, sexuality struggles, or any adjustment issues. It is my passion to support clients of Asian descent and Chinese international students with racial identity and acculturation challenges. My vision for this work is driven by being a first generation Chinese immigrant and my professional experience. When I am not working, I enjoy keeping my egg-laying hens, working on my vegetable garden, biking, and cooking authentic Chinese food for my family.

My practice strives to create an environment where you can express yourself without fear of judgement. The goal is to understand your experience and work to see things in a new light in order to bring a renewed sense of hope. Establishing a strong toolbox of coping skills along with raised awareness of what brought you into therapy can bring a stronger sense of empowerment for positive change. I believe everyone has the ability to navigate what life throws at us and make meaning from those challenges. "Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. The best is yet to come.” ― Zig Ziglar

Are you a sensitive soul who feels like no one really understands you? I use an authentic approach in my practice, allowing you to feel heard and seen by someone who wants to get you. I specialize in grief, life transitions, and codependency. I have years of experience in academic counseling, so I also love to help students who are struggling to feel caught up in school and adjust to all the changes that come with college. In my personal life, I love to study tarot and astrology. I'm happy to talk about that in our work together if you like that too!

I know how hard it can be to admit that something isn’t working anymore, and I don’t take lightly the courage it takes to look inward. Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable people who appear to be holding it all together, while feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or unsure of who they are becoming in this season of life. I work with individuals who are navigating life transitions, grief/loss, caregiving roles, chronic illness or health-related stress, and those that are in the quiet in-between moments where things just feel heavy or unclear. Therapy with me is a place where you don’t have to have the β€œright” words, a clear goal, or a polished story. You don’t have to perform or justify your feelings to be understood. My style is warm, conversational, and collaborative. I ask thoughtful questions, offer genuine validation, and help you make sense of what is happening beneath the surface. Sometimes that looks like building practical skills you can use right away; other times it means slowing down and creating space for insight, grief, or clarity to appear. Bodywork and somatic healing are welcome here. Humor is welcome here too, because healing can be meaningful AND human. I often think of my role as walking alongside you: part steady guide, part enthusiastic supporter as you find your way forward. We will focus on what matters most to you, honoring your values, strengths, and lived experience rather than trying to β€œfix” or pathologize you. I strive to create a space that feels grounding, safe, and real. One where you can show up as you are and feel supported. If you’re feeling hesitant but curious, unsure but hopeful, you’re already doing something brave. You don’t have to do the rest alone.

Hello and welcome to the beginning of your healing journey! My name is Neko and I joined this field because I believe that life is a journey where invitations to heal, grow and prosper are constantly received. I received my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bethel Seminary. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Minnesota. I am trained to view life difficulties through a systemic-trauma lens and I use that lens to work alongside those struggling with difficulties in life. I primarily use modalities that revolve around ones natural psychological parts and somatic sensations and experiences. I have a deep passion for everyone to know that they have value; no matter where they are or where they have been - they hold intrinsic value. I want each person to know they are capable of healing and transformation no matter what choices they have made or despite what life has thrown at them. I have been working alongside individuals for over a decade through my time as a staff at Bethel University, Camp Forest Springs, Hammer Residences, Wellstone Elementary and a Intensive Treatment to Foster Care program through Family Innovations. When I am not sitting with clients, you will find me reading a good book, up north, outdoors, relaxing with my wife, daughter and dog exploring Disney World.

Life comes with its own unique challenges and triumphs. Often during the challenging parts, we can find ourselves feeling stuck. Sometimes the reasons are obvious. Other times, not so much. As a therapist, I take pride in providing a safe, non-judgmental space to explore these more vulnerable parts of life. In my work with teens and adults, I take a client-centered approach while drawing from psychodynamic principles. I aim to build an authentic relationship with you as we explore different aspects of your life. This allows us to identify patterns and themes while setting goals that are meaningful to you. When working together, your autonomy is of the utmost importance to me. I value your collaboration in order to work at your own pace. Throughout my training and professional experience, I worked in various settings including schools, hospitals, the child welfare system, and private practice. These experiences have prepared me to work confidently with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, identity-related issues, life transitions, and relational wounds.

Everyone’s mental health journey looks and feels different. Like you, I’ve had my own journey. This means you can trust me when I say that I know it is hard. I know that it can be scary and I know that you need to feel safe in this process. I am here to walk next to you, to cheer you on and sometimes to help pick you up when you fall. I am honored that my job allows me to help others on their journey and it is a responsibility that I take very seriously. I enjoy working with adolescents, adults and couples. I work with my clients to treat depression, anxiety and trauma. I also work with clients to process issues related to divorce, parenting, relationship concerns, life changes and the challenges that come with having a family member in the military or law enforcement. My experience treating PTSD includes working in a partial hospitalization program and being certified in Prolonged Exposure Therapy. I believe that it is important that my clients feel I am a good fit for them both in my treatment approach and in personality, that is why I offer a free 20 minute consultation before starting therapy.
